International Workshop "Politics, Religion and Modernity in India"
The international workshop will focus on the rise of caste and religious differences and the possibilities of secular language in contemporary India. It will examine how pre-modern identities as a caste and community persist in contemporary Indian politics, with special emphasis on the rise of the Dalit movement, and their implications for the general elections to the House of Commons in April and May 2019.
The workshop is organized by the Institute of Sociology of the CAS, the Center of Global Studies of the Institute of Philosophy of the CAS and the Institut für die Wissenschaften in Vienna within the research program "Global Conflicts and Local Interactions" of the AV21 Strategy.
