The current debate on migration is mainly influenced by the debate on war refugees from Syria, Iraq and Libya. However, this should not distract us from longer-term reflections on migrants' rights in the context of the transformation of the boundaries of political communities, which bring about global change and the transformation of nation states.

The book Immigrants and the Right of Residence is based primarily on a text written by Joseph Carens, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. Other authors then offer their own opinions against the background of the discussion with him. The foreword to the Czech edition was written by Zuzana Uhde and Marek Hrubec.
